PATA 2026
Antigua Guatemala
The PATA 2026 workshop on Paleoseismology, Active Tectonics, and Archaeoseismology of the INQUA TERPRO commission will be held in Antigua, Guatemala, during February 1-6, 2026. The conference will be held for the first time in Central America and will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1976 7.5 Mw Motagua Earthquake that occurred on February 4, 1976.
We are honored to host the 13th PATA Days Conference. Guatemala is located along two active plate tectonic margins formed by the subduction zone of the Cocos plate beneath the Caribbean and North American plates and the transform fault between the North American and the Caribbean plates. This offers a unique tectonic setting for the assessment of upper-plate earthquakes and their relationship with surface processes on the Quaternary timescale.
